Overview
Braxton Consulting is a Supplemental Service Provider for the State of Ohio. Under the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Act, school districts are required, under some circumstances, to provide parents and their children with the option of using supplemental educational services. This option can be used when a student’s school is a Title I served building that has not demonstrated Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) for three years. When this occurs, the school is considered to be in School Improvement Year 2 Status (SI-2). Braxton Consulting provided supplemental educational services to students attending Hawthorne Elementary in Lorain City Schools in the Spring of 2005. In the 2005-2006 school year we will provide services in Columbus, East Cleveland, Dayton, Lorain, and Warrensville Heights.
Assessment
The students that are grade levels kindergarten through five will be assessed using the Leap Track 4.0 system. The students in grades six through twelve will be assessed using the Anywhere Learning System "Snapshot" assessment. The Leap Track system will create a learning path specific to the students needs at the completion of the assessment. The Anywhere Learning System will generate a learning prescription at the completion of the "Snapshot" assessment. The Leap Track and The Anywhere Learning Systems will allow the tutors to perform on-going assessments for each student to monitor progress and track growth.
Service Model
After completing the assessments and surveys, the students will be scheduled for tutoring times and dates. We will also go over the rules and procedures, and parents and students will be oriented to the academic applications and materials. Leap Track 4.0 and the Anywhere Learning System will be utilized for the academic instruction. The tutors will follow the applications prescribed curriculum for each client and monitor progress through the use of each applications reports engine. Progress will be reported to each students teacher and parent. Teachers will also be briefed on the systems use and will be able to view reports. Teachers will work with BETCs tutors to adjust the students learning path/prescription based on materials being covered in the schools curriculum. Moreover, students will also be able to access the Anywhere Learning System programming from home because the application is Internet-based thus providing an anytime-anywhere access. We will also make Leap pads and Leap Track skill cards available to SES participants.
Students will be required to complete four hours of academic programming weekly. We will monitor time on task through the use of the reporting engine. Clients that achieve the sixteen hours a month will be eligible to receive incentives (movie passes, restaurant/department store gift certificates) that have been donated by area businesses.
The Staff will contact the parents of the students that fail to attend scheduled programming or students that do not achieve the four hour academic benchmark. The staff will follow-up with the student, the parent, and the teacher. The staff will set-up an intervention plan with the student, the parent, and the teacher. We will continue to track and monitor the progress of the plan.
